Memorial Day Tribute with John Hewitt, MD
ICYMI… For the last several years, on Memorial Day our very own orthopaedic surgeon, John Hewitt, MD, has been at College Hill CrossFit. This year was no different! Dr. Hewitt, along with the CrossFit community, pays tribute to Navy Lieutenant, Michael P. Murphy each Memorial Day by completing the HERO WOD, “Murph.” The WOD (workout of the day) consists of a 1 mile Run, 100 Pull-Ups, 200 Push-Ups, 300 Air Squats, and another 1 mile Run. Some athletes even wear “body armor” aka a weighted vest for a greater challenge.
Lieutenant, Michael P. Murphy (SEAL), USN was killed in Afghanistan on June 28, 2005. The Memorial Day WOD is said to have been his favorite workout. His military accomplishments, service, and dedication to his country are celebrated by those participating in “Murph.” To learn more about Lieutenant, Michael P. Murphy (SEAL), USN, click HERE.
Like Michael, Dr. Hewitt served in the US Navy. For four years, Dr. Hewitt proudly served his country. Dr. Hewitt is now Greensboro’s only board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with fellowship training in orthopaedic foot and ankle surgery.
