Samantha Milbourn, MS, LAT, ATC
Samantha Milbourn joined EmergeOrtho Triad Region in 2019. She is a Certified Athletic Trainer who prioritizes the well-being of student-athletes with a comprehensive and culturally competent approach to care. Sam’s primary responsibility at EmergeOrtho is to serve as the Head Certified Athletic Trainer at Northwest Guilford High School. Sam and R. Andrew Collins, MD, orthopedic surgeon, work in conjunction to provide sports medicine services with the best interest of the student-athlete in mind.
Following her completion of her Bachelor of Science in Health Science and Exercise & Sport Science at Guilford College, Sam continued her education at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). She earned her Master of Science in Athletic Training at UNCG. Throughout her Master degree program, Sam enjoyed clinical rotations with Northern Guilford High School, UNCG Baseball, UNCG Men’s Soccer, UNCG Dance, O’Halloran Rehabilitation, and Duke Men’s Lacrosse. During her rotations, Sam gained a wealth of experience including injury evaluation as well as sport-specific rehabilitation development and implementation.
As the head Certified Athletic Trainer at Northwest Guilford High School, Sam provides preventative care, injury & illness evaluations, and clinical treatments for emergent to acute to chronic injuries & medical conditions. She provides awareness, education, and intervention to minimize the risk of injury and illness of student-athletes. Preventative interventions often include education on effective warm-up methods, the importance of hydration, as well as tape application, bracing, and fitting of sport-specific protective equipment. Sam uses her clinical knowledge and evidence-based practice to complete both on-field and off-field evaluations to determine a plan of care or medical referral when necessary. She prepares and maintains appropriate and complete health record documentation related to the student-athlete. Sam strives to provide a holistically safe and encouraging environment for all student-athletes.
Sam continues to expand her professional knowledge and evidence-based practice in an effort to continually provide comprehensive and culturally competent care that keeps student-athletes in their sport. She has an interest in optimizing therapeutic outcomes through the utilization of manual therapy, personalized blood flow restriction, optimizing movement patterns as well as balance & postural training. Sam’s passion for providing care and her curiosity surrounding clinical education is outstanding. She is an integral part of the Sports Medicine Team at EmergeOrtho Triad Region.
