Kristine Burns, MS, LAT, ATC, PTA
Kristine Burns joined Greensboro Orthopaedics in 2001. She is dual credentialed as both a certified athletic trainer (ATC) and a physical therapist assistant (PTA). Prior to joining Greensboro Orthopaedics, Kristine had experience as an ATC in the collegiate setting as both an assistant and head ATC. Her primary responsibility at Greensboro Orthopaedics, upon hire, was to serve as the Head ATC at Grimsley Senior High School. Her role has since changed. In 2006, Kristine elected to care for patients predominantly within the Therapy Services Center. She treats a variety of patients from pediatric to geriatric stages of life. “I enjoy working with a variety of people every day – no two days are the same. I get a certain sense of fulfillment when a patient completes their post-surgical rehabilitation and returns to express their gratitude, especially when a patient announces, “I was able to complete the triathlon I was training for!” or “I got a scholarship for track and field!” says, Kristine.
Kristine’s continuing education interests include advancements in upper and lower extremity rehabilitation. She has attended and participated in variety of continuing education courses including numerous National Athletic Trainers’ Association Annual Meeting and Clinical Symposiums. Kristine not only values her own education but is involved in educating student athletic trainers and student physical therapist assistants. She has also been a clinical preceptor for University of North Carolina Greensboro Athletic Training Program since 2001 and became a preceptor for GTCC PTA program in 2013.
Outside of the Therapy clinic, Kristine plays an essential role in the Sports Medicine/Outreach Program. She provides athletic training service to the student-athletes of ACC Men’s & Women’s Basketball, Swimming & Diving, as well as Baseball Championships. She also cares for injured participants at many local athletic events, including 5Ks, CrossFit competitions, cycling competitions, and adventure races. Kristine is largely why the Sports Medicine/Outreach Program at Greensboro Orthopaedics is successful. She strives to deliver quality, compassionate, and patient-centered care to all of her patients inside and outside of the Therapy clinic. She offers a unique approach to healthcare delivery with her diverse background.
